It was recently reported that Israel asked Russia for humanitarian assistance related to Syria, following a cabinet meeting on the subject. This meeting was convened after Israel Defense reported that Russia deployed nuclear bombers to its bases in Syria to strengthen its presence in the region. In 2019, Russia helped secure the return of the remains of Zachary Baumel, an American Israeli soldier who went missing during the First Lebanon War.
Following these developments, MK Ayoob Kara proclaimed: “Only a strong and influential leader like Putin can bring about a cessation in hostilities between Israel and Syria, an agreement that will grant Israel secure and recognized borders that will include the Jewish state maintaining sovereignty over the Golan Heights.”
“Putin will ensure this in exchange for Israeli support in strengthening the continued rule of Bashar Al Assad,” he added. “I sincerely hope that in such a deal we will also witness the return of the bones of the late Elie Cohen, as well as Ron Arad and the missing from the Battle of Sultan Yacoub. In addition, Nasrallah must take under consideration that if the Israeli home front is attacked again, Israel will turn Lebanon into a sandbox.”
