It was recently reported that Iran’s foreign ministry has rejected any new negotiations or changes to the Iranian nuclear deal, after France said new talks should include Saudi Arabia. This comes as ex-Obama aide Robert Malley was named Biden’s top envoy for the Islamic Republic.
In Israel, Malley is viewed to be soft on Tehran and tough on Jerusalem. Biden’s present position is that he will rejoin the nuclear deal, but only after Tehran resumes compliance. However, many in the Middle East find that position problematic, as they believe the deal was flawed to begin with and will do nothing to ensure Iran won’t go nuclear. Furthermore, they argue that sanctions relief will encourage more Iranian aggression across the world.
Considering these developments, MK Ayoob Kara proclaimed that Israel must stand united with Egypt and Saudi Arabia against the Iranian nuclear deal: “There is no doubt that any change like this brings us back to the failed Arab Spring, which will harm the political process and can stop the peace process that we have been waiting for since Israel’s independence.”
“We must stop the return to the nuclear deal,” he proclaimed.
