In recent days, some people in the Israeli media criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for not informing Alternate Prime Minister Benny Gantz, Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi ahead of Netanyahu’s trip to Saudi Arabia. In response to this critic, former Israeli Communication Minister Ayoob Kara proclaimed: “The Prime Minister’s trip to Saudi Arabia does not require an update except to two people, the head of the National Security Council and the head of the Mossad, who were both informed.”
According to Kara, the Prime Minister does not need to update the IDF Chief of Staff for outside of the borders of Israel, responsibility lies with the Mossad and not the IDF Chief of Staff: “I don’t want to defend the Prime Minister, but the only thing that should be examined is whether the trip was constructive for the State of Israel.”
Regarding this, Kara claimed that there is nothing more important than setting the stage for peace with Saudi Arabia, especially following the recent US election results: “It is time to view every move objectively, examining whether it helps Israel or not. It is forbidden to all the time aim to criticize for the sake of spoiling. A blessed initiative is good for everyone, including the opposition. Let us rise up, lower the level of incitement and end the hatred for we got no other country.”
